Steve O’Dwyer has bookended 2015 with massive tournament wins. He began by winning the first super high roller event of the year, the $100,000 buy-in PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. How as the year comes to a close he has emerged victorious in the 2015European Poker Tour Prague €50,000 Super High Roller, the final event of it’s kind for the year on the EPT.

For the win O’Dwyer was awarded €746,543 ($816,666USD) and 510 Card Player Player of the Year points. This was his fourth title of the year at his 10th final table. With 4,400 total POY points and year-to-date earnings of $4,550,025 O’Dwyer has climbed into sixth place in the overall POY standings. The American-born poker pro who now calls Ireland home increased his career live tournament earnings to $11,970,752 with this win.

O’Dwyer came into the final table in third chip position. As you would expect he had plenty of tough competition to contend with, including John Juanda (8th – €107,550), Dzmitry Urbnaovich (4th – €285,000) and Igor Kurganov (3rd – €376,400).

In the end it came down to a heads-up showdown between O’Dwyer and Sam Greenwood. O’Dwyer held over a 2-to-1 chip lead after the elimination of Kurganov in third place. The final two agreed to a deal that saw €643,607 guaranteed for Greenwood and €724,228 for O’Dwyer while the title and €22,315 was left to play for.

The two only played 15 hands. On the final hand of the live tournament Greenwood raised to 300,000 from the button with blinds of 60,000 – 120,000 with an ante of 20,000. O’Dwyer made it 900,000 to go and Greenwood called. The flop came down QJ4 and both players checked.

The turn brought the 6 and O’Dwyer checked-called a bet of 830,000. The 5 completed the board. O’Dwyer checked yet again and Greenwood moved all in for just over 3.1 million. O’Dwyer made the call with the J10 for second pair, which was the best hand as Greenwood could only produce the 109 for a busted straight draw.

With that O’Dwyer secured the pot and the title while Greenwood was sent to the rail as the runner-up.
